This Twitter user has lots of tweets prefixed with WRITING TIP! They're very very quick and helpful tips, covering a broad range of topics and issues. Best of all if you need a hand or have a question she's sure to reply :).

Quote
WRITING TIP: Say more by saying less. Hint at things w/o saying them outright. Be suggestive. Make the reader think.

WRITING TIP: There R times to give details. Don't say "car". Say it was a Ford. Don't say "house". Say it was a blue house. Details. Details.

WRITING TIP: Your writing will flourish when U fall out of love with your own words. Make words your tools, not your babies. Edit w/o mercy.

WRITING TIP: Weave your hidden secrets into a fiction story. Great therapy, but no one will know.

WRITING TIP: Do you have a story you want to tell after someone is deceased? Write it now and release it later or your fervor will die.

WRITING TIP: For writer's block - tell the story of how you got your favorite job.

WRITING TIP: Every word in your story should add to the reader's knowledge, relationships, events, senses, or emotions.

WRITING TIP: Do you have enough tension in your story? Grip the readers with tension until they are unable to lay your story down.

WRITING TIP: As a general rule, don't let your family read your work. They will be your worst critics.

WRITING TIP: Does every scene push the story forward? Outline your scenes, check your dialog. Does every word point to the theme?

WRITING TIP: Don't try to accommodate all readers. What age R U writing 2? Target them. If under the age of 7, target the parents.

WRITING TIP: Ask questions of your characters: What is Ray's motivation? Where is he going N life? What does he feel inside?

WRITING TIP: Advanced writers, watch for rhythm, density, metaphors, cliches, verbiage, under-developed characters, extensive scenes.

WRITING TIP: It's impossible 2 find a subject that hasn't been covered. What u do w/your characters & plot is what makes yours unique.

WRITING TIP: Sometimes U have 2 throw a draft away and start over, perhaps keeping only three or four paragraphs of the original.

WRITING TIP: All dialog, all scenes must advance the story or build the character in some way. Otherwise, delete it.

WRITING TIP: Let your work lay up to a week before editing. Leave it too long & it will get cold and stale; U may lose interest in it.
