This AWESOME 30 second bunny library pretty much sums up movies in 30 seconds. It's a parody, yes, but....it can teach you to write summaries and plots at the same time!

Check out these Harry Potter ones:
Harry Potter part 1
Harry Potter part 2

When Writing a Plot or Storyline
Focus on the big events of the plot! If you're doing this on paper, write down one big event per page or few lines. This is the essence of your story. To remember the events you can jot down little points underneath them, or, what these events cause to happen and how each event is solved or transitions to the next.

Like so:

Emma meets the man of her dreams
 - She doesn't know he's a werewolf
 - She ignores the signs
     - He seems to drool at the sight of blood
     - He craves raw meat
 - She considers the signs "charming quirks" and falls deeper in love with him
Emma marries the man of her dreams
 - They have a full on wedding
     - Her friends try to warn her
     - Her grandfather keeps his distance
 - They go on a honeymoon
     - Her grandfather calls her every night (strange)
     - She can't seem to contact her friends
     - Her new husband seems restless and angry (upsetting her)
Emma's first full moon
 - etc etc etc...

The little points are there to help you follow the plot and reach the next event - which can keep you on track and help you remember important details.

When Writing a Summary
Focus on the big events of the plot! I'm repeating myself! When you're writing a summary, you pay attention to the big events and rarely focus on those sub points. Sub points can be attacked when writing essays, but summaries should focus on the main events that move the plot along.

Of course, when summarizing a scene or event, you need to focus on those little sub points. Watching a few bunny movies might give you some good ideas and a jump start!
